The Mechanical Analysis Division of Mentor Graphics (formerly Flomerics) provides simulation software, thermal testing hardware and consultancy services that help our customers to eliminate mistakes, reduce costs, and accelerate and optimize designs involving heat transfer and fluid flow before physical prototypes are built.
Lighting products are undergoing a revolution in technology with conventional lighting rapidly being replaced with solid-state solutions, with the promise of higher efficiency and greater reliability. Solid-state lighting brings with it a significant thermal challenge, as light output and long-term reliability both decrease with temperature - a particular problem for replacement products for existing luminaires. Mentor’s thermal design software and characterization hardware provides a complete solution to the thermal design and testing of solid-state lighting components and products.
Our thermal software embedded in mechanical CAD allows LED integrators to simulate 3D models of whole luminaires in the actual operating environment, providing a complete understanding of the product’s performance. Plus, it allows LED vendors to build validated detailed models of their parts that is backed up by measurement hardware that provides full thermal, radiometric and photometric characterization.

FloEFD
CAD-Embedded CFD with an electronics cooling module; FloEFD provides powerful thermal capabilities for analysis by specialists who support electronics cooling applications such as LED design.
FloTHERM
FloTHERM is the undisputed world leader for electronics thermal analysis. FloTHERM uses advanced CFD techniques to predict airflow, temperature, and heat transfer for LED applications.
MicReD tools T3Ster & TERALED
T3Ster - the thermal transient tester is designed with the needs of the semiconductor, electronic appliance and LED industries and R&D laboratories in mind. T3Ster is the fastest and most accurate thermal transient tester on the market. Its related software T3Ster-Master fully supports the latest thermal testing standard JEDEC JESD51-14 for junction-to-case thermal resistance measurement. TERALED is a CIE 127:2007 compliant total flux measurement system with temperature control. When used together with T3Ster for high-power LEDs, it performs self-consuistent thermal and radiometric/photometric characterization LEDs - forming a comprehensive LED testing station. Full automation of the measurements with TERALED allows extremely fast operation: the LED under test can be characterized in over 100 operating points (forward current and temperature combinations) in about 2 hours.
