LED Street Lighting reference design compatible to street lighting standard

The LED Street Lighting solution with Golden DRAGON OVAL ARGUS already meets the requirements for street lighting for main roads with a driving speed of up to 60km/h according to DIN EN 13201.
The joint reference design is implemented by several LED Light for you Certified Partners. This street lighting solution brings together all the necessary individual optical, thermal and electronic technology competences. It allows luminaire manufacturers to create quick and easy solutions of their own.
The oval beam shape of the Golden DRAGON OVAL ARGUS LED shapes the light to the target area and no secondary optics/reflector in the luminaire is necessary. The number of LEDs can be adjusted depending on the lighting class of the street. All LEDs are mounted on a metal core PCB (MCPCB) T-Clad® from Bergquist for a quick heat transfer to the heat sink. The heat sink from Cooler Master also acts as an integrated luminaire housing. The LEDs (EMS process) are mounted using the special soldering process from SIIX Corp.. The driver solution for the LEDs uses a power factor correction (PFC) stage from STMicroelectronics and LED drivers from Supertex.

The radiation characteristics of the oval lens of the LED (angle 80° x 120°) provide an optimized oval beam pattern on the street. Furthermore, the optical simulation of the street is easily possible using the Elumdat standard, e.g. with DIALux or RELUX. The Elumdat files for the LED are available at the OSRAM website under Product Catalogue / Application Support / Optical Simulation. The implemented 70x 1 Watt LED with a pole distance of 15m fulfills the streetlighting standard DIN EN 13201 with the highest class ME2 (Motorized vehicles on main roads with a medium driving speed 30-60 km/h).

Moreover, the effective cooling and mechanically strong connection of the LEDs is implemented with Bergquist's T-Clad® MCPCB consisting of a circuit layer, dielectric layer and base layer. This means the heat is quickly transported through the thin dielectric layer to the aluminium base layer.

SIIX Corp. has developed an innovative and advanced soldering process for the Dragon LED with lens, on the MCPCB or any other PCB. This process offers best thermal connectivity, reliability and price competitiveness.
The Cooler Master intelligent thermal layout uitilizes the luminaire housing as a heat sink. It covers important requirements such as power dissipation (here 70W), dimensions, type of heat sink, airflow requirements etc. The ultra-low thermal resistance of the heat sink Rth Board-Ambient (BA) 0,64 K/W provides a Tjunction of 64°C at Tambient 25°C. This performance gives a long lifetime >50,000h and a high usable lumen output.

In addition, the demo board HV9910DB9 developed from Supertex drives up to 3 strings of LEDs (each with 350mA) with a total power of up to 120W. It implements a PFC stage from STMicroelectronics, which is required for street lighting applications. The potential ranges of uses for the board is very flexible because the number of LEDs is adjustable over a wide range. For example, two strings with higher LED voltage can be used, as long as the max. power of 120W is not exceeded.
